Want something that automatically engages your students during reading time? Then this annotation choice board is for you!

The choice board gives your students a choice of 25 annotations that require them to think critically and talk about what they read. Students will select 12 annotations to complete on their response board.

This is a great activity to use in pairs! Students read together, talk about what they read, select an appropriate annotation, and write their response together.

Download Includes:

  • 25 Choice Annotation Board: Includes Quotes, Questions, Doodles, Reactions, Conflicts, Hashtags, Big Ideas, and Cause Effect with detailed prompts. Since the Google Slides version is included, you can edit the choice board to fit your specific classroom needs.

  • 12 Box Response Sheet: Students will respond to the annotation on this sheet.

  • Student Expectation Slide: Make sure you and your students are on the same page with expectations with this slide you can keep on your board during the activity.

I know you are looking for great, unique, and creative ways to create active readers in your classroom. And it's even better if the activity is collaborative! Add a competitive element and you are golden. Right?!?

I know you are looking for great, unique, and creative ways to create active readers in your classroom. And it's even better if the activity is collaborative! Add a competitive element and you are golden. Right?!?

This activity was created to get my students talking about what they're reading and working together to analyze the content. Students practice their annotating skills while partner reading with this fun TIC TAC TOE activity.

How it works: Students compete to try to get three in a row. Each spot on the board has a different annotation skill. Since there are 5 game boards included, students can play multiple times!
