Author’s Purpose & POV Mini Lesson
This mini lesson will help your students learn how to determine the author’s purpose and point of view in nonfiction text. In addition, students will practice identifying the purpose and point of view of three commercials and three articles.
This Product Includes:
Google Slides Presentation: 28 colorful and engaging slides that provides students with detailed notes about author’s purpose and point of view.
Notes: Defines and explains author’s purpose, point of view, and bias. Provides a step-by-step process for determining the point of view and purpose.
Vocabulary Practice: Practice the vocabulary with a Quizizz. Link and instructions included.
Instructional Video: Video where I walk students through the slides and help them gain an understanding of author’s purpose and point of view.
Practice Activity: First, students will watch three commercials and determine the purpose and point of view of each one. Second, students will read three articles and complete a graphic organizer outlining the purpose and point of view.

Author’s Purpose and POV: The Quest Activity Pack
Author’s Purpose and Point of View Quests
These quests are an engaging and creative way to help your students practice and apply their knowledge of author’s purpose.
The Quests:
Quest 1: Students will analyze two billboards for the creator’s purpose.
Quest 2: Students will analyze two commercials for the creator’s purpose and point of view.
Quest 3: Students will select an article from Wonderopolis to read and complete an author’s purpose and point of view graphic organizer based on the information in their article.
Quest 4- Students will read and article and complete an author’s purpose and point of view graphic organizer based on the information in the article.
Quest 5: Students will read an article and take notes on the author’s purpose and point of view. Using the notes, students will write three multiple choice questions using the question stems provided.
